Apostle Islands National Lakeshore

Camping and Kayaking in the Apostle Islands National Lakeshore

“Did the sea cave tour in a tandem kayak with my mom last weekend. Had a great time, guides were really personable and helpful (thank you, Britta & Emily!) Would definitely recommend to anyone interested in a day trip, and we got out with enough time to visit Bayfield and take one of the later ferries to Madeline Island. We were tired but delighted with the trip!”

My family (husband, daughter, 2 grandchildren) and I did an overnight trip to Sand Island and had a great time. Our guides were excellent, they were knowledgeable, friendly, and great cooks. Even though the water was a bit rough on the way out we felt safe the entire time. Would highly recommend this company.

Wonderful 2 night kayak trip to visit Apostle Islands. Visited Sand, York, Raspberry and Oak. Guides Kyle and Kiah were awesome. Meals were fabulous! Fresh ingredients and plenty of it. Great experience with our 2 teenage sons. Highly recommend!

This company seeks to serve – day trips, overnights, beginners to advanced kayakers, they have planned and custom trips – just talk to them! Details are handled and you’ll never forget the awesome time you’ve had – I won’t use another company. Food was fantastic and guides were wonderful – memories for a lifetime.

Great day, hosts couldn’t have been better, would recommend a half day for first time kayakers like ourselves as 10 miles was a bit much to start but they didn’t rush anyone and hung back with the few slowpokes at the end. Beautiful caves, were very patient in letting those who wanted to explore take the time they wanted for photos etc.. The young instructors were so kind and welcoming, great conversationalists and more than willing to help or answer any questions. Was a long haul but we’re so glad we had the experience and happy to have had it with this company. Thank you!!!

We visited Ironwood early in June and wanted to try a kayak trip on Lake Superior. I contacted Whitecap Kayak the week before we were going to be up there and we set up a trip for the next week. The morning of our trip the waves were 2-3 feet and we all decided to go the next day as the weather looked better. We did the waterfall trip that left from Saxton harbor. It was a rather short paddle to the mouth of a river to the base of superior falls. We got out there and had lunch that consisted of wraps with lunch meat and all kinds of veggies and cookies for dessert. After lunch they give you the option of paddling further down the shoreline or heading back to the harbor. Anna was our guide along with Levi, a junior guide, and Neal the owner went along too. They are very accommodating with what your schedule is and work to make a trip that works for you. Our trip was just the 3 of us and the guides. I highly recommend Whitecap Kayak!

Our guide, Britta, was informative, helpful, and so pleasant to be around. Very professional – made us feel like official kayakers. Meal prepared was delicious. Had a wonderful time kayaking on Lake Superior for the first time and one of the Great Lakes as well. Thanks, Britta!
